    Job Title:                    SR. PRODUCT MANAGER, INSTRUMENTS AND ACCESSORIES

     

    Department:               PRODUCT MARKETING

     

    Reports to:                  DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT MARKETING

     

    Primary Function of Position:

     

    The Senior Product Manager, Instrument and Accessories will be responsible for both product management and product marketing of instruments and accessories of the daVinci Surgical System. This includes managing products throughout the entire product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product roadmap, and working closely with engineering, to deliver winning products.  Responsibilities also include driving the successful rollout of new products to the worldwide sales teams and customers; and defining and owning post-launch product improvements and sustaining efforts.

     

    Roles and Responsibilities:

     

    Product Manager Key Objectives:

     

    1. Develop market requirements and business      justification for new products.       Collect customer feedback through customer interviews, case      observations and customer focus groups. Refine requirements with feedback      from customers, clinical sales and clinical development engineering. Take      a “hands-on” role in product evaluation labs.

     

    1. Manage the product rollout process including      external product launch. Establish product positioning, value proposition      and pricing. Create marketing and sales training material.  Conduct customer preference studies and      deliver new product training to sales, training and customer support.      Measure product success through post-launch product feedback.

     

    1. Be an internal subject matter expert on clinical      value of instruments and accessories. Provide support for existing products      through sales, surgeon, and OR staff training. Understand competitive and      emerging and complementary technology and its impact on robotics surgery.

     

    1. Monitor and prioritize product quality issues.      Work on cross-functional teams to resolve product issues and critical      customer issues.

     


    Product Manager Key Deliverables:

    1. Create Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) with prioritized features and corresponding justification for new product.
    2. Develop and maintain product rollout strategies and identify new product ideas and enhancements.
    3. Manage cross functional product rollout team. Work with sales management to prioritize international product launches.
    4. Understand costs and margins and set pricing to meet product and procedure revenue and profitability goals.
    5. Conduct surgeon evaluations and develop value proposition and product positioning. Develop marketing collateral and training material.
    6. Provide product related support to sales, surgeons and OR staff. Conduct product training for sales, distributors, surgeons and OR staff.
    7. Identify and prioritize product enhancement and reliability issues and drive teams to resolve high priority issues.
    8. Proactively communicate with senior management on the product development status and product quality issues.
    9. Track competitive products and emerging technology. Identify complementary technology and potential industry partnerships.

     

    Skill/Job Requirements:

     

    • Product management experience in a therapeutic medical device company.  Surgical and/or OR experience desired.
    • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Marketing Manager required with a history of defining and launching successful products
    • Bachelor’s degree in life science or business discipline.  MBA or advanced degree is desirable.
    • Proven ability to effectively position and message products/procedures and develop strong sales support to drive product/procedure adoption.  Demonstrated success in building clinical education and marketing programs to drive product/procedure growth.
    • Demonstrated ability to work creatively amidst competing priorities to deliver high-impact marketing programs on-time and within budget to support overall marketing strategy and business objectives.
    • Superior verbal/written communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to work across multiple constituents.
    • Self-starter with ability to take leadership in an unstructured environment.
    • Able to prioritize and smoothly manage multiple tasks.
    • Must be well versed in MS Office Suite.
    • Ability to travel 20 – 40% of the time.  Some international travel may be required.
